Both companies showed the glasses on stage at Google I/O and confirmed a fall launch window in an official teaser, reported by Engadget and 9to5Google. That timing detail is about as solid as pre-launch information gets.
Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event is set for July 22, 2026 in London.
Samsung has scheduled Unpacked for July 22, and coverage from VR.org and gadgethacks.com widely expects Samsung's first AI smart glasses to headline it alongside the next Galaxy foldables. Given today is July 16, this is effectively days away — worth watching directly rather than relying on rumour roundups once it happens.

Two launch frames are reportedly coming from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
9to5Google's reporting on leaked styling describes a "disruptive yet refined" Gentle Monster design alongside a more traditional Warby Parker silhouette, with both said to work across Android and iOS devices rather than being locked to Samsung phones.
The first generation reportedly skips a display entirely.
Multiple outlets, including gadgethacks.com, report this first wave will be audio-only — no lens display — relying on onboard speakers, voice control and cameras to interact with Gemini. A display version is reported to be targeted for sometime in 2027, not this launch.
Rumoured hardware includes a Snapdragon AR1 chip and a 12MP Sony sensor.
Leaks compiled by 9to5Google point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset, a 155mAh battery, a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 — a fairly modest spec sheet consistent with an audio-first, all-day wearable rather than a compute-heavy device.
Pricing is rumoured between $379 and $499 USD.
That would slot the glasses above Meta's non-display Ray-Bans (around $299 USD) but well below Meta's Ray-Ban Display at $799 USD, according to reporting from 9to5Google and vr.org. No confirmed NZD pricing exists yet.
Real-time translation is a headline rumoured feature.
Reports describe voice-matched real-time speech translation plus live translation of text in the wearer's line of sight — handy for menus and signage — though none of this has been demonstrated publicly yet ahead of Unpacked.

Going audio-only first is the smart call, not a compromise.
Skipping the display for gen one keeps weight, price and battery drain manageable while Google and Samsung build out Gemini integration — the exact lesson Meta learned by shipping cheap Ray-Bans years before its pricier Display model. If the $379-499 pricing holds, that's a genuinely competitive slot against Meta's line-up, including for buyers here in NZ who've been eyeing Ray-Bans but held off on the price.
