Buying guide

Best Webcam NZ

Your laptop's built-in camera is almost always the worst part of a video call. Here's what's worth buying in NZ if you're on camera a lot for work or streaming.

How we picked these: Based on current NZ price comparisons from PriceSpy NZ and PriceMe, covering models actually stocked by NZ retailers. No paid placements.

Best overall: Logitech Brio 505

The Brio 505 sits in the sweet spot for most NZ buyers โ€” around $189 and shooting sharp 1080p at 30fps with genuinely competent auto light correction, which matters more than raw resolution for how you actually look on a call. It has a built-in privacy shutter and dual noise-cancelling mics, useful if your laptop mic is as mediocre as most are. For everyday work-from-home use, this is the one we'd point people to first.

Best for streaming/creators: Logitech Brio (4K) / MX Brio

If you're recording or streaming rather than just doing Zoom calls, Logitech's higher-end Brio models step up to full 4K capture with HDR support, priced around $221 for the standard Brio and higher for the newer MX Brio. The extra resolution gives you room to crop and reframe in post, and HDR handles high-contrast lighting (like a bright window behind you) far better than budget cams, which tend to blow out backgrounds or crush your face into shadow.

Best budget: Razer Kiyo

Razer's Kiyo is aimed squarely at streamers on a budget, around $157 in NZ, and its standout feature is a built-in ring light around the lens โ€” genuinely useful if you don't already have proper lighting, since even a mediocre camera looks better with even lighting than a great camera in bad light. Resolution tops out at 1080p/30fps, which is fine for Twitch-style streaming but not class-leading.

Entry option: Logitech Brio 300

At around $100, the Brio 300 is the cheapest webcam worth buying rather than settling for a laptop's built-in camera. It's a basic 1080p unit without the auto light correction of the 505, but it's a clear step up for anyone doing regular video calls on a tight budget.
