Copilot+ PC Snapdragon X2 Elite: What's New for 2026

Unlike most of the speculative chip stories we cover, this one's mostly real: Qualcomm's second-generation Snapdragon X2 platform launched at CES 2026 and laptops built on it are already reaching shelves. Here's what's actually shipping, what's still to come, and how it stacks up against the first Snapdragon PC wave.

Twisti guides ยท Updated July 2026
Why we're labelling this so carefully: Twisti's whole value is showing you real, current prices โ€” not guesses. While the X2 Elite platform itself is confirmed and shipping, exact NZ pricing, availability dates and some upcoming devices are still reported rather than official. We'd rather be upfront about which is which than let a rumour read like a fact.

What's confirmed

Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme are real, shipping platforms.

Qualcomm's second-generation Windows-on-ARM chips launched at CES 2026 with devices arriving through the first half of the year. The Elite Extreme is the higher tier, sitting above the standard X2 Elite, with an X2 Plus variant covering the mainstream/mid-range segment.

The Hexagon NPU jumps to 80 TOPS, up from 45 TOPS.

Qualcomm's official specs put the new Hexagon NPU at 80 TOPS versus 45 TOPS on the original Snapdragon X Elite, alongside claims of up to 31% faster performance at the same power draw and up to 43% less power use compared with the prior generation.

Real laptops are already on the market.

Lenovo's lineup includes the Yoga Slim 7x (up to the 18-core X2E88100 Elite variant, 1.17kg, claimed up to 29 hours battery life), plus the IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 and IdeaPad Slim 5x models running Snapdragon X2 Plus. HP's OmniBook Ultra 14 (Next Gen AI) offers X2 Elite or X2 Plus configurations with up to 64GB LPDDR5x-9522 memory, up to 2TB of PCIe 5.0 storage, a 14-inch 3K OLED touch display, MIL-STD-810 durability testing, and a 2.81lb (about 1.27kg) chassis.

What's reported (analyst / supply-chain sourced)

Snapdragon X2 Plus is aimed squarely at pulling Copilot+ PCs into the mainstream price bracket.

Neowin reports Qualcomm positioned X2 Plus at CES 2026 as the chip meant to bring Copilot+ AI features to more affordable Windows 11 laptops, rather than keeping the tier exclusive to premium X2 Elite machines.

Microsoft is expected to bring Snapdragon X2 to Surface devices later in 2026.

Reporting around Microsoft's partner announcements names X2 Plus and X2 Elite as platforms for upcoming Surface Pro and Surface Laptop variants, though Microsoft hasn't given a firm release date for Snapdragon-based Surface hardware built on the new chips.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x pricing has been floated at around US$949.99, with Q2 2026 availability.

Early coverage cites this as an expected starting price and window rather than a confirmed retail figure across all markets, and NZ pricing and stock timing may differ from US launch numbers.

Twisti's opinion

This generation is the one where Snapdragon laptops stop being a novelty.

The first Snapdragon X Elite wave in 2024 was solid but held back by app compatibility niggles and inconsistent battery claims. With a genuine NPU bump, real power efficiency gains, and now a tiered lineup covering budget to premium, X2 is a much easier recommendation โ€” especially for anyone prioritising battery life over heavy gaming or niche x86-only software.

What we'll update

We'll update this page once NZ retailers list confirmed local pricing and stock dates for X2 Elite and X2 Plus laptops, and again if Microsoft confirms Snapdragon-based Surface Pro or Surface Laptop models.
