Fitbit is now owned by Google, and its NZ range has narrowed as Google folds features into Pixel Watch. Here's what's still worth buying, and what it costs.

Fitbit's place inside Google now

Google completed its acquisition of Fitbit back in 2021, and since then Fitbit has increasingly become the budget/fitness-first counterpart to Google's own Pixel Watch line, which runs Wear OS and targets smartwatch buyers directly. Fitbit devices still run their own simpler OS, focused on step counting, heart rate, sleep tracking and long battery life rather than apps and notifications. That makes Fitbit relevant in NZ specifically for buyers who want fitness tracking without smartwatch complexity, or a lower price than a Pixel Watch or Apple Watch.

Current NZ lineup

The Fitbit Charge 6 is the flagship fitness band, adding Google Maps and YouTube Music controls plus more accurate heart rate tracking (borrowed from Pixel's sensor tech) over the Charge 5.
