If you want a more subdued, warm-wood look rather than glowing colour panels, the Elements Hexagons kit (around $329 NZD) uses a wood-textured frame with warm white lighting only — better suited to a living room than a gaming room.

Lines: for a cleaner, more minimal look

The Nanoleaf Lines starter kit (around $259 NZD at Noel Leeming) trades the geometric panel shapes for slim light bars that can be arranged in more architectural patterns. This is the pick for anyone who found the triangle panels too busy but still wants full-colour ambient lighting.

Essentials bulbs and strips: the budget entry

Not every room needs a feature wall.
