Next Xbox (Project Helix) Rumours: Everything We Know

Microsoft broke from tradition and confirmed its next console by name months before any expected reveal — Project Helix is officially real, and it's aiming to blur the line between Xbox and PC entirely.

Why we're labelling this so carefully: Twisti's whole value is showing you real, current prices — not guesses. None of the pricing below is confirmed. We're publishing it because people are genuinely searching for this information already, but we'd rather be upfront that it's industry speculation than let a rumour read like a fact.

What's confirmed

Confirmed

Microsoft officially revealed Project Helix at GDC in March 2026, confirming on Xbox Wire that the next-generation console will run games purchased on Steam, GOG and other PC storefronts natively, not just titles from the Microsoft Store — a hybrid console-PC approach.

Confirmed

In late April 2026, Xbox leadership confirmed that industry-wide memory and storage shortages would affect both pricing and availability of the next console.

What's reported (analyst / supply-chain sourced)

Reported

Wccftech reports Project Helix is powered by a custom AMD system-on-chip using RDNA 5 GPU architecture on TSMC's 3nm process, a significant efficiency jump from the 7nm node used in the current Xbox Series X, and co-designed alongside AMD's "FSR Next" upscaling technology.

Reported

Pure Xbox reports Xbox's Matt Booty has confirmed the team is deliberately holding back further Helix details from public showcases this year, framing the console reveal as a longer, staged process rather than a single event.

Reported

Tech Insider reports Microsoft plans to ship alpha hardware kits to developers beginning in early 2027 (leaks point to January–February), with analyst consensus shifting toward a mid-to-late 2028 consumer launch as component costs and alpha-kit timing became clearer.

Twisti's opinion

Opinion

The "runs Steam and GOG games" confirmation is the genuinely newsworthy part here — it signals Microsoft is willing to soften the walled-garden console model to compete with PC gaming handhelds and Valve directly. With alpha dev kits not landing until early 2027, a 2028 consumer launch looks realistic to us, and we wouldn't expect firm pricing until much closer to that date given the shortages Microsoft has already flagged.

What we'll update

We'll update this page as Microsoft shares more Project Helix details later this year, and again with confirmed specs and pricing closer to launch.
