Google Pixel Watch 5 Rumours: What to Expect
Leaks, FCC filings and one very specific pre-order date have given us a fairly detailed picture of Google's next smartwatch, even though the company itself has stayed quiet on the name. Here's what's solid, what's speculation, and what we think actually matters.
What's confirmed
Google has locked in a "Made by Google" event for August 12, 2026, in New York City, starting at 6pm EDT (3pm PDT). New Pixel hardware is expected on stage, and the timing lines up neatly with a watch launch.
Worth being precise here: Google has confirmed the event date and location, but it has not confirmed the Pixel Watch 5 by name, nor any of its specs. Everything below is still rumour until Google says otherwise on stage.
In May 2026 Google rebranded the Fitbit app as "Google Health" and pushed it out to existing Fitbit and Pixel Watch users. This isn't a Watch 5 rumour as such, but it's the platform the new watch is expected to ship on out of the box, so it's useful context for anyone deciding whether to wait.
What's reported (analyst / supply-chain sourced)
A Dealabs leak points to an August 20, 2026 release, alongside the Pixel 11 series, with pre-orders reportedly opening a week earlier on August 13.
That's still just a retailer-sourced leak rather than anything Google has put its name to, but the dates fit tidily around the confirmed August 12 event, which is part of why the rumour has stuck.
Multiple outlets are reporting a switch away from the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5, which has powered every Pixel Watch to date, in favour of a custom Tensor chip built for wearables. If accurate, it would be the first Pixel Watch to run on Google's own silicon rather than a licensed Qualcomm design, and the main driver is said to be battery life rather than raw performance.
Forbes contributor Andrew Williams reported on June 30, 2026 that FCC filing images show the back of a device labelled "Google" and "Pixel Watch 5," with sensor markings for SpO2, EDA (electrodermal activity), skin temperature, heart rate, and UWB (ultra-wideband). That's a fairly strong signal since FCC filings are regulatory documents rather than marketing leaks, though the filing itself still doesn't confirm final specs or pricing.
On looks, the rumour mill expects the Pixel Watch 5 to closely resemble the Watch 4, with bezels trimmed even further. For context, the Watch 4 already cut bezels by 16% compared with the Watch 3, so this would be an incremental refinement rather than a redesign. Display brightness is rumoured to at least match the Watch 4's 3,000-nit peak, with some reports suggesting it could go higher still.
Pricing leaks via droid-life and thepixelcase point to a starting price of US$399 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model, which would be a US$50 jump over the Pixel Watch 4's launch price. If that leak holds and Google prices it similarly in New Zealand, expect it to land noticeably above where the Watch 4 currently sits.

The FCC filing is the detail we'd weight most heavily here — sensor lists in regulatory paperwork tend to be far more reliable than pricing leaks passed along secondhand. A custom Tensor chip makes strategic sense too, given how much Google has leaned into in-house silicon for its phones, but we'd treat the $399 figure as the shakiest piece of this puzzle until something closer to launch corroborates it.
If you're shopping right now, our advice is simple: don't buy a Pixel Watch 4 expecting a steep imminent discount just because a successor is rumoured. Prices usually only move once a launch is official, and with Google not even confirming the Watch 5 by name yet, that could still be weeks away.
