Steam Deck 2 Rumours: Everything We Know So Far
Valve's own developers have shot down one popular theory already, which tells you almost as much as any leak does — the Steam Deck 2 is real, it's coming, and it's further away than most fans hoped.
What's confirmed
Valve has not officially announced a Steam Deck 2, a specs sheet, a price, or a release date. Steam Deck coder Pierre-Loup Griffais has publicly and directly denied that Valve is building a Steam Deck 2 using an AMD Z2 Extreme chip, stating "there is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck."
Griffais also hinted the next Deck might not use an AMD chip at all, responding "not necessarily AMD!" when asked about the processor — a notable statement given Valve's exclusive AMD partnership on the original Deck.

PC Guide and Pocket Tactics report no credible release date has emerged as of mid-2026, with most speculation now pointing well past this year.
Leaker KeplerL2, cited by multiple outlets including LaptopMag, suggests a Steam Deck 2 release date isn't likely until 2028, with some analysts landing on a more specific Q4 2027 to early 2028 estimate as the most credible window.
Rumoured feature targets circulating across PCGamesN and Stuff include a significant performance leap, an OLED display as standard, Hall-effect analog sticks and triggers, and meaningfully longer battery life than the original Deck.
Pricing speculation cited by Tech Insider and PC Guide ranges broadly between US$499 and US$799, reflecting how unsettled the chip choice and component costs still are this far out.
Twisti's opinion
Valve going out of its way to publicly deny the Z2 Extreme rumour, rather than staying silent, is the most informative data point here — it suggests a genuinely different architecture is in play, possibly even a move away from AMD entirely. Given Valve's history of taking its time (the original Deck itself was years in development), we'd lean toward the later end of the 2027–2028 estimates rather than expecting anything this year or next.
