Steam Frame Rumours: Valve's Next VR Headset Explained
Unlike most devices on this list, the Steam Frame isn't a rumour anymore — Valve has confirmed it by name and given it a "summer 2026" shipping window. What's still missing is the one number everyone actually wants: the price.

Valve has officially revealed the Steam Frame, its standalone VR headset and successor to the 2019 Valve Index, and confirmed a "this summer" 2026 launch window. It runs SteamOS on a mobile chipset, plays native ARM/Android-class VR titles standalone, and streams demanding PC VR games wirelessly over a dedicated high-bandwidth link.
Confirmed specs include dual 2160x2160 LCD panels (one per eye), refresh rates up to 120Hz with an experimental 144Hz mode, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, storage options of 256GB and 1TB, and built-in eye tracking used for foveated rendering.

Road to VR reports that as of early July 2026, Valve still hadn't announced a price or opened reservations, despite reconfirming the headset as "coming soon."
Tech Insider reports that industry-wide DRAM and memory shortages through 2026 are creating real headwinds for both the Steam Frame's shipping schedule and its eventual price, with analyst estimates for the 256GB model drifting toward the US$899–US$1,199 range.
VR.org notes the Frame is being positioned explicitly as the long-awaited Index successor — the Index launched in 2019 at US$999 for the full kit and has gone unreplaced for six years, which is fuelling expectations that Valve will price aggressively to re-enter the category.

The hardware itself is essentially locked in — this is one of the few "rumour" posts on our list where the specs are genuinely confirmed and only the price and exact ship date are open questions. Given memory-chip shortages are hitting the whole industry this year, we wouldn't be surprised if Valve slips the "summer" window slightly or leans toward the higher end of that price estimate rather than the lower.
